Thika United have signed six new players ahead of the 2017 season.
The Kiambu County-based side have acquired goalkeeper Caleb Wafula and winger Peter Okoth from Talanta, striker Edmond Adem from Kisumu-based Palos FC, midfielder Dennis Lewa from Coast Stima and the Bidco United duo of Benson Iregi and Sosthenes Khakali Idah.
Thika also promoted James Kinyanjui, Francis Muturi and Samuel Chege from their junior side to the senior team.
Thika offloaded striker Brian Toorach, left back Eric Lusala and defender Patrick Kimani.
The club's official website says they are also finalizing the acquisition of another goalkeeper.
“The new players have been around since we started preseason training, but we still have a lot of work to do before the team gels together and play as a team,” Thika coach James Nandwa said.
Even so, on Sunday, Thika showed cohesion to beat former champions Gor Mahia 2-1 in a friendly match played at the Camp Toyoyo in Nairobi.
K’Ogalo had gone up in the sixth minute through returnee Timothy Otieno, but new signing Edmond Adem beat Gor’s new goalkeeper Shabaan Odhoji from point-blank range to restore parity seven minutes later.
Second half substitute Timothy Luda scored Thika's winning goal, evading Odhoji to fire home shortly after the restart.
