The World Leagues Forum (WLF) has appointed Jerome Perlemuter as its first permanent General Secretary. The Forum has at the same time confirmed the membership of the Kenyan Premier League.
Jerome Perlemuter will join the WLF on April 3, after 12 years as the Head of Legal Affairs and International Relations at the French Professional Football League.
This role saw him lead the French League’s engagement with political and sport institutions domestically and internationally, notably FIFA, UEFA, and other football bodies. Perlemuter, a former member of the Paris bar, is also currently serving as a Judge of the Paris Commercial Court, which he will leave, where he focuses on competition law litigations.
The WLF, which is based in Zurich, was established in 2016 and is comprised of 25 member leagues including the Kenyan Premier League, Nigeria Professional Football League, Guinea Football League and South Africa’s Premier Soccer League from Africa.
“The Forum is important to us because league matters can be articulated through the forum and put to Fifa’s attention. Clubs are also major stakeholders in football,” said KPL Chief Executive Officer Jack Oguda.
“You will have noticed that players have good representation at Fifa but not so much so for the clubs. This Forum will address that.” <./p>
He added: “KPL's membership at the WLF will be good for our development. We are a growing league and can learn so much from the developed leagues such as Bundesliga and English Premier League as we strive to professionalize our operations.”
The WLF is currently chaired by Richard Scudamore, Executive Chairman of the Premier League, as part of a three-person management group that also includes Christian Seifert, Chief Executive of the Bundesliga and Enrique Bonilla, Executive President of Liga MX in Mexico.
It aims to support the development of modern, effective governance within world football that recognises the vital part professional leagues and their member clubs play in the sport.
