SPL round 19 talking points

Gor Mahia extended their lead at the top of the league table to four points, champions Tusker ended a worrisome winless streak as the woes of former glamour side AFC Leopards and ex-multiple winners Ulinzi Stars continued with weekend losses.

AFC Leopards coach Robert Matano: “This is a very bad feeling for me because we had a share of good chances but wasted them (lost 1-0 to Bandari). Katerega was a non-performer and his passes were inaccurate and I had to make a decision to replace him."

Bandari coach Paul Nkata: “There is nothing sweeter in football as avenging defeat and I am happy we have beaten them. (beat AFC Leopards 1-0). They surprised us in Mombasa in a match we had expected to win, so this victory is enjoyable."

Bandari midfielder Abdalla Hassan: “This is my second goal of the season and scoring against giants like AFC Leopards, the feeling is good particularly coming on my birthday.”

Ulinzi Stars coach Benjamin Nyangweso: “We lost many easy scoring chances and when you can't score then you have no one to blame (lost 1-0 to Nakumatt."

Nakumatt coach Anthony Mwangi: “We have been undergoing financial challenges as a team and players have not been paid their allowances for the last two months, so things are tough for us (beat Ulinzi Stars 1-0). This victory is big morale booster for us and will keep us going under this difficult times."

Thika United coach Nicholas Muyoti: "We made silly mistakes in the second half and this was our main undoing (lost 3-0 to Sofopaka). You cannot just leak in three goals like that. Bad day for us in the office.”

Sofapaka assistant coach John Baraza: "This is the second victory in a row and I am happy the boys are picking valuable points as the league progresses (beat Thika United 3-0). We are now gelling and in another three to four games we will be able to tell how far we can go in the league this season."

Zoo Kericho coach Sammy Okoth: This was quite a difficult match for us especially because Chemelil kept tormenting us with long balls because they knew we had a bit of challenge with height (drew 1-1 with Chemelil Sugar). The playing surface was also not very good. However, I would like to congratulate my boys for the hard earned point.”
