Ambitious Nsimbe eyes Champions League group stage

Tusker coach George “Best” Nsimbe certainly does not mince his words, nor coat them in innuendo.

Straight up he told kpl.co.ke on Wednesday that he is looking to guide the brewers to the modern era African Champions League group stage, a feat never before achieved by the Kenyan club.

The Ugandan tactician will open his Tusker account in the elite African club competition on Saturday, February 11 at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani in Nairobi against AS Port-Louis of Mauritius in a preliminary round, first leg tie.

The Mauritian league champions are expected to land in Nairobi at 8pm on Thursday and will have a feel of the Kasarani pitch on Friday afternoon.

Said Nsimbe: “I am happy with the club’s managers because they have made it possible for us to have residential training which is very important for any team taking part in such a major competition.

“I also thank God that I have no injuries to worry about apart from just a few small knocks here and there. My ambition is to get to the group stage and I know that is very possible because twice I have come very close to achieving that.

Of concern to Nsimbe, though, is the unavailability of Eugene Asike for the tie. The dependable Tusker defender is ineligible to play in this preliminary match as he had passport issues that could not allow him to register in time for the completion.
