Tusker’s Nsimbe best coach of May

Tusker coach George "Best" Nsimbe is the Sports Journalist Association of Kenya/Kenyan Premier League Coach of the Month for May.

Nsimbe, who put together a 12-match unbeaten streak prior to last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bandari, becomes the third tactician to receive the prize this season after Gor Mahia’s Marcelo “Ze Maria” Ferreira and Posta Rangers’ Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo who took the March and April accolades respectively.

Nsimbe received a cash prize of Sh75,000 as well as a personalized trophy from Fidelity Insurance, sponsors of the award.

Accepting the recognition, Nsimbe heaped praise on his players, saying that he wouldn’t have been worthy of the award “if it were not for their tireless efforts and determination”.

“It makes me proud to be a recipient of this award. The league is very competitive and it is not easy to have the kind of record that we now have,” he said at the team’s Ruaraka grounds.

Nsimbe took up the Tusker coaching job at at the beginning of this year, replacing his Ugandan counterpart Paul Nkata who decamped to Bandari.

Nsimbe, started shakily at the brewers, getting eliminated from the CAF Champions League in the preliminary stage and losing to Gor Mahia in the Kenyan Premier League Super Cup.

He also lost his first two matches of the SportPesa Premier League to Nzoia Sugar and Thika before rebounding to guide the brewers to an impressive 12-match unbeaten run that included eight wins.

Notably, Nsimbe guided Tusker to a 100 per cent record in May - that is, he won five straight matches.
