GOtv Shield quarters all set as Leopards storm through

The quarter-final match-ups for the annual GOtv shield tournament are now complete after former title holders AFC Leopards beat Bidco United 2-1 in their rearranged round of 16 match at Thika Stadium on Wednesday.

This was the last fixture of the round of 16 that was originally scheduled to be played last Saturday, but was postponed due to the fact that three Ingwe players were on a tour of Spain with the select SportPesa Premier League All Stars.

The 2013 champions will face yet another tricky challenge against lower tier side Wazito in the tournament's next round in August.

Ugandan import Keziron Kizito, signed by Leopards last month, opened his account at the Den with a second half goal that added onto Samuel Ndung'u's first stanza opener.

Herritier Luvualu came through with Bidco's goal late in the game.

New coach Robert Matano presented an unfamiliar front line that included Ndung'u, Aziz Okaka, Harun Nyakha and Burundian ace Alexis Hakizamana.

Ndung'u opened the scoring after just 14 minutes of play, drilling a low shot home from the left after having received a well weighted cross from Duncan Otieno.

Kizito, who had come on for midfielder Nyakha, doubled the scores for Ingwe in the 70th minute, sending a thunderous shot into the top right corner to much applause from the few Ingwe fans who had turned up to watch the encounter.

David Juma's equaliser came in the last five minutes of play to cause anxious moments for the Big Cats, but they held on to advance.

Ingwe now join SportPesa Premier league outfits Tusker, Kariobangi Sharks, Bandari and Sony Sugar in the round of eight.

The quarter-final matches will be played on the weekend of August 19.
