IDCC ruling: Muhoroni Youth fined

The Independent disciplinary and Complaints Committee (IDCC) has slapped Muhoroni Youth with a Sh150,000 fine for violating Rule 3.4 and Rule 3.5 of the rules governing Kenyan football in their match against Nzoia Sugar played on April 22.

IDCC has also raised serious concern about the state and safety of Muhoroni Stadium, although the disciplinary committee has dismissed Nzoia Sugar’s plea to have the stadium banned from hosting further SPL matches.

Muhoroni Youth had been charged by the Kenyan Premier League with misconduct. The club was accused of intimidating and attacking Nzoia Sugar fans during a league match involving the team teams played on May 20 in Muhoroni.

This followed a scuffle involving knives, clubs and other crude weapons during the match, causing a 15-minute stoppage.

The IDCC has at the same time acknowledged that the security situation at Muhoroni is wanting.

“From the submissions by Nzoia, other than seeking redress for the violence, they have raised serious concern about the state and safety of the Muhoroni Stadium. We have no problem finding that due to the security lapse, Muhoroni Youth in the least was contributorily negligent, hence culpable.

“We invoke Rule 7.3 (c) (ii) and fine Muhoroni Youth Sh150,000 for their misconduct. We charge Muhoroni Youth to strictly adhere to rules in the future, and in the interest of the greater good of the sport, and for the safety and well-being of their cherished fans and visiting fans, of their own motion to move to review their stadium and where possible improve it and its standards,” IDCC said in its ruling.

Muhoroni will still face other charges of misconduct pending before the IDCC. The club has had been accused of denying Sony Sugar players and technical staff from accessing the changing area on April 22 this year.

Muhoroni chairman Moses Adagala has also been accused of leading a group of Muhoroni Youth fans in invading the pitch and charging towards match officials during his team’s match against Ulinzi Stars in Muhoroni on May 13.

The Independent Disciplinary & Complaining Committee (IDCC) is the Tribunal for solving disputes in the game of football managed under the auspices of the Kenyan Premier League Limited.
