Selebwa leaves Muhoroni for Leopards

Gilbert “Mavisi” Selebwa has resigned as coach of Muhoroni Youth just two months after his appointment.

In a surprise move, Selebwa has re-joined AFC Leopards as the Team Manager taking over from Tony Lidonde who quit Ingwe two months ago.

Muhoroni Youth said in a statement that former club coach James “Odijo” Omondi will take full charge of the team for the remainder of the season.

Speaking to, Selebwa said that he was leaving Muhoroni for personal reasons and he had briefed the club managers accordingly.

“I have just stepped down, and it was a personal decision I took after consulting several people including my family.

“We have parted with Muhoroni quite amicably.

“The good thing is that no vacuum has been left at the club. Omondi knows the team better than anybody I know of and I know that he will help them get out of that bottom position. I did my part and helped sign very good players and I have no doubt that Omondi will finish the job by improving the team’s performance,” the former Congo United, AFC Leopards and Shabana coach said.

Selebwa leaves the club after two months and four games with a record of one win, two losses and a draw.

Their latest result was a 2-0 home loss to table leaders Gor Mahia a fortnight ago that left them languishing to the bottom of the SportPesa Premier League table with just 15 points from 17 games.

Considered dark horses last season, this year has been torrid for Muhoroni. A combination of factors including mass departure of key players and lack of proper recruitment have contributed to the team’s dismal performance this season. They are, in fact, flirting with relegation, something unthinkable at the start of the season.
