Gor, Ulinzi, Homeboyz notch wins

Gor Mahia inched ever closer to regaining the league title after slamming champions Tusker for two in Kericho as Ulinzi Stars edged out Mathare United at Ruaraka and Sofapaka fell to Kakamega Homeboyz despite the super productive Umaru Kasumba scoring yet again in Saturday's matches.

Posta Rangers 1-1 Thika United (Ruaraka Grounds)

Posta Rangers struck first when a well-positioned Jerry Santos nodded home Luke Ochieng’s long pass in the 23rd minute.

The visitors responded almost immediately afterwards when Eugene Mukangula connected superbly with Benson Iregi’s corner delivery to rattle the net.

Mathare United 0-1 Ulinzi Stars (Ruaraka Grounds)

The goal that condemned Mathare to their 11th loss of the season came in the 11th minute through lanky Oscar Wamalwa.

The busy Wamalwa was spotted well by Harambee Stars midfielder Samuel Onyango and he obliged with a smooth finish as Ulinzi stretched their unbeaten run to five matches.

Mathare pressed hard to rescue the game but just did not have that extra edge to break down the Kenya Defence Forces side’s rear guard superbly marshaled by the vastly experienced Geoffrey Kokoyo.

Kakamega Homeboyz 2-1 Sofapaka (Mumias Sports Complex)

Golden boot aspirant and smoking hot Umaru Kasumba opened the scoring for Sofapaka in the 17th minute after Ezekiel Okare picked him out with his left wing cross.

Batoto ba Mungu however conceded a penalty 20 minutes afterwards when Rodgers Aloro handled the ball inside the box, and Jeremiah Wanjala duly leveled matters for the hosts from the spot.

Wycliff Opondo drove deep into enemy territory from the centre of the pitch in the 52nd minute and unleashed a long range shot that beat Sofapaka custodian George Opiyo for the match winner.

The result marked a heavy blow to Sofapaka’s slim title hopes and results at Kericho Green Stadium affirmed that.

Tusker 0-2 Gor Mahia (Kericho Green Stadium)

There was a lot of action to be witnessed both inside and outside the pitch as is typical of matches involving these two teams.

Meddie Kagere struck for Gor Mahia in the 19th minute after combining well with the influential George “Blackberry” Odhiambo on the right wing.

Odhiambo turned from provider to scorer on 57 minute as Kagere, in turn, returned the favour with a timely assist.

The win surely put the league leaders well on their way to recapturing the trophy they lost to Tusker last season. K’Ogalo have now won seven of their last nine matches and are unbeaten in their last 11 fixtures.
