Sofapaka, Homeboyz bag crucial wins

Kakamega Homeboyz consolidate their second position in the league table as Sofapaka moved one place up to third following their victories, while big boys AFC Leopards and Ulinzi Stars lost in Sunday’s matches.

Posta Rangers 0-0 Sony Sugar (Thika Stadium)

Posta Rangers remain stuck in a performance rut as confirmed by this score that marked their 10 straight match without a win.

Rangers will face AFC Leopards next week away as Sony Sugar tackle Ulinzi Stars at home in Awendo.

Chemelil Sugar 1-1 Mathare United (Chemelil Sports Complex)

Collins Neto struck for Chemelil in the 22nd minute with a high ball that caught Bandari goal keeper Levis Opiyo out of his line.

The sugar millers thought they had this one wrapped up – and a third straight win secured surely - only to concede a penalty in the 89th minute when Smith Ouko fouled Tyson Otieno inside the box.

Second half substitute Elijah Mwanzia stepped forward to direct the spot kick in and rescue a point for Mathare.

Sofapaka 2-0 AFC Leopards (Narok Stadium)

Ugandan import Ali Feni was the only man on the score sheets. Feni made the most of a defensive lapse from Leopards’ defenders Robinson Kamura and Salim “Shitu” Abdallah to get into position and beat Ingwe goalkeeper Ian Otieno from close range.

Feni completed his brace four minutes later easily tapping in Willis Ochieng’s cross as Sofapaka got back to winning ways while in the process leaping over Ulinzi Stars on the league table to move to third position.

Ulinzi Stars 0-1 Kakamega Homeboyz (Afraha Stadium)

The pundits had given Ulinzi this one, but Homeboyz thought otherwise.

The visitors gained a penalty awarded in the 42nd minute after Ulinzi midfielder Daniel Waweru was called out for handling the ball inside the box.

My kick, said Jeremiah Wanjala as he sent the Kenya Defence Forces goalkeeper James Saruni the wrong way. Impressive Homeboyz have now gone eight matches unbeaten and sit in position two on the league eight points within striking distance of leaders Gor Mahia.

Thika United 1-0 Kariobangi Sharks (Thika Stadium)

Christopher Oruchum’s goal early in the second half was all the differences in this keenly contested tie.

It was a victory to savour for the home side who had previously gone six matches without a win.
