Gor close in on title, Leopards down KDF’s Ulinzi

Gor Mahia blank Kariobangi Sharks top move to within a point of securing the league title as AFC Leopards ease any relegation worries with a hard fought win over Ulinzi Stars in Tuesday’s matches.

Rwanda skipper Jacques Tuyisenge accounted for a splendid hat-trick. He opened his account in the 16th minute when he pounced on a loose play by Sharks defender Paul Kamau to bury the ball home.

Five minutes later, Tuyisenge doubled the lead with his second goal, finishing off Meddie Kagere’s well weighed pass.

The on fire Tuyisenge completed his hat-trick shortly after for his 12th strike of the season that puts him joint top scorer with Kepha Aswani of Nakumatt.

Gor's Innocent Wafula handled the ball inside the box in the 68th minute and up stepped Sharks sharp shooter Masoud Juma to direct the spot kick in for some consolation to the Kariobangi-based side. Golden Boot chasing Masoud is now on 11 season goals, one behind the top scorers.

Charging Gor Mahia now just need a point from their four remaining matches to regain the SportPesa Premier League title they lost to Tusker last year.

Victor Majid created the decisive goal in the 63rd minute feeding second half substitute Whyvonne Isuza on the right, who made no mistake with his goal effort.

The win was a welcome relief for the under pressure AFC Leopards side who had lost 2-0 to Posta Rangers last weekend in Narok and seemed to be inexorably sliding towards the dreaded relegation zone.

Ingwe coach Robert "The Lion" Matano relished the win against his former club saying the three points were crucial to Ingwe’s battle to finish in a respectable position.
