2017 Super Cup: New signings look to shine

Spectators will get the opportunity to watch the new signings of SportPesa Premier League champions Tusker and Gor Mahia when they face off in the 2017 Super Cup at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru on Sunday from 3pm.

Tusker coach George “Best” Nsimbe says that the match will give his team a good chance to regain confidence after their disappointment in the CAF Champions League where they were eliminated in the preliminary round last month by tiny Port-Louis of Mauritius.

“We have to win the game. We have to start the season well and, for me, this is like the first game of the season. All players are here despite the short notice, and at least I can field the new players as well. I didn’t have that option in the Champions League,” he said.

Nsimbe was speaking of the likes of Vincent Omumbo, Samuel Olwande, Marlone Tangauzi, Victor Ndinya and Moses Ndawula who the brewers acquired for the new season but they played no part in the Champions League as they were ineligible.

Dependable defender Eugene Asike and speedy winger Danson Kago, who also missed the return match against Mauritian side AS Port Louis, are also available for this fixture.

K’Ogalo fans have made plans to travel to Nakuru to give their usual vocal 12th man support and announce their presences for the new season.

The famous green jerseys lost 1-0 to Bandari in last year’s edition of this competition, and went on to also lose their league title. They will be keen to get their season going with a win.

Acquired Rwandan left back Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza is on everyone’s lips, and Gor fans will be looking to see if he is a worthy replacement for departed Abouba Sibomana and Eric Ouma, who played so well in that position.

Amos Nondi is back from England where he did duty for SportPesa All Stars against Hull City XI, and declared that he wants to make his big break this year.

“This is my second year in the Premier League, so I am no longer a new comer. I have to prove myself this year and I hope the coach will give me that opportunity,” he told Kpl.co.ke.
