‘Migi’ Mugiraneza relishing life as a K’Ogalo

Scoring on debut is the dream of any footballer. The elevated confidence it brings the new player at the club is always welcome, and can help him settle fast and start delivering.

Rwandan midfielder Jean-Baptiste “Migi” Mugiraneza is basking after a stellar performance in his first league outing in the famous green jersey of Gor Mahia that was crowned by a goal as his side crushed newly promoted Kariobangi Sharks 3-1 in Thika on Sunday.

Mugiraneza netted his goal in the 39th minute, latching onto a loose ball after Sharks goalkeeper Robert Mboya had punched out Jacques Tuyisenge’s effort.

Mugiraneza told that he was happy to have helped his team claim victor, and that he intended to be prominent for Gor this season and help them win the title.

“One thing I have noticed here in Kenya is that all teams are really good. We have lost to a number of sides in preseason, some of them from the lower divisions. It shows every match will not be a walk in the park and you have to work very hard in order to get results that deliver you the championship.

“I usually do my individual training before the team training but I plan to put in even more effort this year so that we can become champions once more.

“Here at Gor the coach is good, and the players are also very good. The management is committed to facilitate good performance from the team so I am sure we can achieve that dream,” he said.

Mugiraneza joined K’Ogalo in December last year from Tanzanian club Azam after declining offers from AFC Leopards and Rwandan side Rayon Sports.

He was the first player Gor recruited in the end season transfer window. His inclusion forced the club to release Burundian left back Abouba Sibomana so as to keep within the League permitted quota on foreign players.

Gor Mahia next face Zoo Kericho in Kisumu on Saturday, March 18, and be sure Mugiraneza will be keen to leave a mark in that match.
