Hall: Leopards on title hunt? No, not yet

Despite recording their best start to the season in four years, AFC Leopards coach Steward Hall does not want to hear any talk about chasing titles just yet.

Hall told kpl.co.ke that Ingwe had lost a number of big-name, key players at the end of last season, and he the team was in a state of rebuilding and not chasing glory.

"We have good players right now, but we lost the experienced ones last year. The players we have are young, with little or no Premier League experience so asking them to push for the title would just pressurise them and mess them up.

"I am looking to finish in the best possible position, maybe a top four position. That way, I can have more liberty to nurture the young ones and gradually prepare them for a strong title challenge next year or the year after.

The 13-time champions, playing with energy and enterprise, have won twice and drawn once in their last three league fixtures scoring five goals and conceding one to move to the top of the league table.

"Having young players has its advantages. They may not be very experienced, but they are ambitious and hungry and more importantly, they are more disciplined and eager to learn, to improve on their game. These are qualities that I consider strengths," the Englishman said.

Hall seems to have settled for a 3-5-2 formation that has Ghanaian Gilbert Fiamenyo as the chief striker. He has two goals to his credit so far.

Hall’s real gems are, however, the likes of little-known Marsellus Ingotse, Ibrahim Mao  Joshua Mawira and Marcus Abwao who have shown great promise in their short spell at this level.

The English coach really does wants to succeed with this team and has dismissed talk of joining Tanzanian side Yanga even as he admitted receiving overtures from the.

"I feel like I am onto something good here. Leaving is not one of the things I'm thinking of or considering. Not yet. I have a long term plan with this team. Three clubs have approached me but my position remains clear, I am here for the long haul," he said.

He should be in the dugout come this Sunday growling instructions when prowling AFC Leopards confront Chemelil Sugar in Kisumu.
