KPL charge Sharks’ Ogweno with misconduct

The Kenyan Premier League has on Friday preferred charges of misconduct against Kariobangi Sharks defender Pascal Ogweno with the Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee (IDCC).

In a letter to Ogweno, the League stated that the match officials’ report of the game between Kariobangi Sharks and Posta Rangers in April indicated that the player snatched and tore the referee’s cautionary card.

“It is further reported that after being red-carded, you refused to leave the field of play and only did so after being prevailed upon by your team-mates. You then went to sit in your club bus instead of the dressing room and had to be escorted to the dressing room to comply with the rule,” KPL Chief Executive Officer Jack Oguda said in the letter.”

The League notes that Ogweno’s action is contrary to Rule 6 (i) Respect Match Officials, Rule 7.7 Assault on Match Officials of the Rules Governing Kenyan Football and is punishable under FIFA Disciplinary Code art. 49 par. 1 (a).

Posta Rangers won the game 1-0 courtesy of a successful penalty kick by Joseph Mbugi.
