Stima stun Tusker, Ranger hunt down Nzoia

Western Stima showed little respect to defending champions Tusker inflicting a successive loss to the brewers as Posta Rangers bossed Nzoia Sugar to rise to the top of the league table in Friday's matches.

Posta Rangers 2-1 Nzoia Sugar (Ruaraka Grounds)

Courtesy of this result, Rangers are back at the summit of the table although their continued stay in that position will depend on how Ulinzi Stars perform in their weekend match.

Ever green Dennis Mukaisi, a one time Kenya international, pened the scoring for Rangers in the 24th minute with a sure footed shot to the bottom right corner after collecting Titus Achesa’s cross.

A minute later Rangers’ Luke Ochieng was sent off for reckless play.

Despite their numerical inferiority, Rangers doubled their lead when they received a penalty in the 72nd minute after Edwin Wafula fouled Titus Achesa inside the box. Joseph Mbugi stepped up to successfully convert the resultant penalty.

Patrick Kitwonda pulled a goal back for Nzoia’s in the 87th minute but it was too little too late.

Rangers finished with nine men after Patrick Matasi was given his matching orders on 90 minutes.

Western Stima 1-0 Tusker (Moi Stadium)

This was Tusker’s second consecutive defeat and saw them relinquish the league leadership to Posta Rangers.

Western Stima’s new signing Villa Oramchan broke the deadlock at the half hour mark to settle this affair.

The three points earned hauled the power men off the pit of the SPL table, but it could be temporary with basement sides Mathare United and Thika United involved in weekend matches.
