Gor, Sofapaka consolidate lead

Table leaders Gor Mahia and second placed Sofapaka notched up victories to consolidate their positions as third placed Posta Rangers lost ground following Wednesday’s matches.

Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 Bandari (Mumias Sports Complex)

The sole goal of the match was delivered by Homeboyz captain Ali Bhai who picked a cross from defender Moses Mudavadi, maneuvered through the Western stima defense before placing the ball in the bottom right corner of the net.

Bandari were however forced to play with 10 men in the dying minutes of the match after their goalkeeper Wilson Obungu was shown red for handling the ball outside his jurisdiction.

Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 Western Stima (Kenyatta Stadium)

Second half substitute Francis Manoah was the toast of high riding with a superb finish in the 78th minute.

Sharks had the upper hand in terms of possession and chances created, and Paul Kamau and Masoud Juma were guilty of squandering good chances.

Sofapaka 3-1 Nzoia Sugar (MISC)

Cruising Sofapaka were first on the score sheets when Willis Ouma rose high to nod home Michael Oduor’s corner in the second minute.

Luke Namanda leveled matters for Nzoia 12 minutes later with a well-placed shot that beat Sofapaka goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya all the way.

Ten minutes to the end of the first half, on-form striker Ezekiel Okare restored Batoto ba Mungu’s lead with a rasping left-footed shot from close range.

Umaru Kasumba put insurance on Sofaka’s lead in the 43rd minute when the hosts third goal.

Gor Mahia 1-0 Posta Rangers (MISC)

Focused Gor Mahia registered their fourth consecutive win at a rain drenched Moi International Sports Centre.

The goal in the 22nd minute via reliable scorer Meddie Kagere as K’Ogalo continued to sit pretty atop the league table.

With this loss Rangers were unable to regain the third spot that they lost to Ulinzi on Tuesday as the title race hots up.

Mathare United 1-1 Nakumatt (Ruaraka ground)

Veteran striker Kepha Aswani returned back to scoring ways in this match as his 45thminute goal gace Nakumatt the lead.

Harambee Stars trialist Chrispinus Oduor,a joy to watch in this match, was fouled inside the box by defender Donald Mosoti, resulting in a penalty that Oduor duly dispatched home to equalize for Mathare.

Muhoroni Youth 2-0 Thika United (Muhoroni Stadium)

Muhoroni Youth bounced back from their recent home loss to Gor to put two past Thika.

Hassan Kiyoyo dribbled past two defenders and sent goalkeeper Eliud Emase the wrong way for the first strike on 28 minutes of play before substitute Daniel Otieno turned in Farouk Mudoola’s pin-point delivery into the box for the second.

Sony Sugar 2-1 Zoo Kericho (Awendo Green Stadium)

Sony Sugar took the lead in the 43rd minute when Alfred “Alfie” Onyango had an easy tap in off Samuel Olare’s free kick.

Zoo’s equalizer came in the 80th minute in the form of a penalty converted by club wonder boy Mike Madoya after Joseph Omweri handled the ball inside the box.

It looked destined for a draw only for things to unravel again three minutes from time.

Long serving Sony forward Amos Asembeka outran Zoo defender Johnstone Ligare to calmly beat Zoo’s advancing goalkeeper Vincent Misikhu.
