AFC seek redemption against Thika

Eight SportPesa Premier League teams will play catch up matches on Wednesday with AFC Leopards seeking redemption against visiting Thika United as resurgent Bandari host seemingly back on form Tusker in Mombasa.

AFC Leopards v Thika United (Thika Stadium, 3pm)

AFC Leopards will search for redemption after a rather short lived recovery.

Thika rallied to hold Gor Mahia to a barren draw on Sunday and they will fancy their chances against a decidedly erratic Ingwe.

In the absence of Nigerian striker Onwudi Chibueze, the Thika-based side will once more be forced to deploy Shami Kibwana as a lone striker against Leopards.

Ingwe beat Thika 2-1 in their first leg match on April 23.

Bandari v Tusker (Mbaraki Sports Club, 3pm)

Bandari are still basking in their weekend glory of beating Zoo Kericho 3-0 in Mombasa even as they welcome the league’s defending champions.

The brewers are slowly recovering from a rut that had seen them fail to record victory in five games.

Tusker goalkeeper David Okello celebrated his birthday on Tuesday and is likely to retain the starting role between the sticks in place of veteran Duncan Ochieng.

Tanzanian striker Cosmas Lewis continues to be the most influential player for the dockers so far, and he even contributed to their weekend victory with a brace.

The two teams met on July 2 in the first leg where the dockers won 1-0.

Kariobangi Sharks v Posta Rangers (Moi International Sports Centre, 3pm)

Kariobangi Sharks approach this match fully aware that based on the current standings, any slip up will send them skidding from fourth to seventh place on the SPL table.

They, however, face a Posta Rangers side that is going through a rough patch, having failed to win in seven consecutive games and failing to score any goals in four of those games.

To make matters worse for the postmen, their first choice goalkeeper Patrick Matasi is suspended for accumulating five yellow cards. Former Tusker and Muhoroni Youth goalkeeper Farouk Shikalo is his likely replacement.

The two teams are familiar opponents, having played in the National Super League last season. Rangers won the first leg clash 1-0.

Muhoroni Youth v Nakumatt (Muhoroni Stadium)

Winless in five matches, Muhoroni Youth will be desperate to grab all three points on Wednesday.

Incidentally, the two teams are meeting for the first time this season in a SportPesa Premier League tie, as their first leg clash was postponed following a ban imposed by Football Kenya Federation on Muhoroni Stadium.

Nakumatt lead striker and second top scorer in the league Kepha Aswani will be the go to man assisted by Boniface Akenga. The retailers will be looking to collect all three points against the stumbling Muhoroni, who are at the basement of the league table.
